Club Leaders is part of the Places People Play Legacy programme, and provides business training and support to leaders of sports clubs. We have already had considerable input from NGBs during our research phase and we hope to continue this close relationship with you as we progress into the delivery stage to ensure the programme complements the support you already provide to your clubs.
The programme was formally launched on 16th May 2012 in the House of Commons, and the Club Leaders website is now live. The ‘Learning Bus’ that we are using to publicise the programme will also begin its tour of England.

A key aspect of the programme is delivering a country wide mentoring scheme. This involves individuals with a business background, from PricewaterhouseCoopers and a range of the Olympic Partners, helping locally based sports clubs become more successful by applying their business skills and expertise.
During the consultation, BWL asked to be involved in choosing those clubs who would be offered mentoring support, and we now have the opportunity to do so. Clubs will also have the opportunity to self nominate during the life of the programme.
Successful clubs will then be matched with an appropriate mentor and will facilitate the mentoring process centrally. We are committed to ensuring this is a simple, clear and fully coordinated approach and intend to share any key findings with you throughout the process.
