A four-strong team of powerlifters are preparing to travel to Dubai to compete at the fifth Fazaa International competition from February 21-28.
BWL talent athletes Paul Efayena and Micky Yule, who competed at Fazaa last year, will be joined by Scottish talent athletes Nathan Mcqueen and Hannah Toremar.
Yule and Efayena will both be aiming to improve on their performances in the same event in 2012, with Efayena competing at 107kg and Yule at 80kg, and also looking to build on his success at the UK Bench Press Championships in January where he set a new personal best and was picked as Best Lifter.
For the two Scottish athletes it will be their first international competition, and will give them valuable experience of travelling with the GB set-up. Mcqueen will compete at 72kg and Toremar at 61kg. She will also get classified at the event.
The team is being supported by BWL Performance Support Officer Tom Whittaker, alongside physiotherapist Suzanne Basnett. Also attending is Neil Crosbie, the Scottish Talent coach from the Scottish Institute of Sport who leads the IPC Powerlifting programme for Scotland. He has been working alongside the BWL performance staff over the past 18 months.
