FOUR GB powerlifters have returned from Dubai after competing in the Fazza International Tournament.
Micky Yule, a Scot now living in Lincoln, returned with a bronze medal after equalling his personal best. After missing his opening lift of 170kg he was successful a second time, and went on to confidently lift 176kg with his final attempt.
In his first international competition Nathan MacQueen finished seventh. He opened with a successful lift of 115kg, but was unsuccessful twice at a personal best weight of 121kg.
Scotland’s Hannah Toremar was also competing in her first international after coming through the Talent ID scheme.
She began with a successful lift of 45kg, and attempted 50kg twice but both were ruled out because of technical errors.
London’s Paul Efayena travelled to Dubai with high hopes of overcoming a minor pec injury, but despite aggressive treatment he didn’t recover in time to compete.
The tournament gave all four lifters valuable experience of a competition environment which should help them adapt more easily to the challenges ahead of them.
