The BWL Podium-Potential Squad consists of those athletes who have the potential to score points for Great Britain at the IWF World Championships in 2014 and 2015 and represent Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Support is provided through the BWL WC Performance Programme and an athlete personal award.  Athletes need to show progression in order to remain in the squad.

BWL Talent Squad

The talent squad supports athletes who have experience of weightlifting through their schools and/or clubs who have the physical and psychological attributes which give them the potential to develop into elite weightlifters.  Athletes in this squad must demonstrate both commitment and progression and are normally expected to be 4-10 years away from representing Great Britain at an Olympic Games.

BWL Talent Confirmation

BWL Talent Confirmation is a 6 month programme which identifies athletes who have the potential to progress onto the BWL Talent Squad. Athletes attend camps  at the BWL HPC which are designed to develop;

• athlete’s weightlifting techniques,

• responsiveness to training stimuli

• an athletes ability to perform within a pressurised environment

•  overall capacity to adapt to the lifestyle of an elite weightlifter.

Athletes are identified through coach nominations, BWL rankings and BWL Talent ID days.
