The talent squad supports athletes who have experience of weightlifting through their schools and/or clubs who have the physical and psychological attributes which give them the potential to develop into elite weightlifters. Athletes in this squad must demonstrate both commitment and progression and are normally expected to be 4-10 years away from representing Great Britain at an Olympic Games.
BWL Talent Confirmation
BWL Talent Confirmation is a 6 month programme which identifies athletes who have the potential to progress onto the BWL Talent Squad. Athletes attend camps at the BWL HPC which are designed to develop;
• athlete’s weightlifting techniques,
• responsiveness to training stimuli
• an athletes ability to perform within a pressurised environment
• overall capacity to adapt to the lifestyle of an elite weightlifter.
Athletes are identified through coach nominations, BWL rankings and BWL Talent ID days.
